Histrory
The Krokos Kozanis Cooperative was founded in 1971 in the region of Kozani, Northern Greece, with the purpose of organizing and protecting the cultivation of Greek red saffron (Crocus sativus). Local producers united to safeguard the authenticity, quality, and fair trade of this precious spice, which has been cultivated in the area for centuries.
Since its establishment, the Cooperative has been responsible for collecting, processing, packaging, and promoting saffron under strict quality controls. Through continuous modernization, certification, and export development, it has strengthened the global reputation of Greek saffron.
Today, the Cooperative represents hundreds of local growers and is internationally recognized for producing one of the highest-quality saffron varieties in the world, certified as a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) product of Kozani.
